Style Guide
Congratulations on booking your session with So Foxy Photography! We are excited to spend the day with you making you look and feel like a star. In order to get you fully prepared for your special day, we put together this style guide that will tell you exactly what to do and bring for your shoot.
Pre-Session
Because boudoir photography tends to show a little more skin than most other forms of portrait photography, some clients prefer to have hair removal services performed before their session. While we don’t require our clients to do so, we do recommend that you schedule this service 3-5 days before your session to allow time for any healing that may need to take place.
Your boudoir session includes complimentary hair and makeup styling, with a focus on natural, rather than glamorous looks. These services are performed on clean, bare faces and clean, dry hair. If there are parts of your routine that usually come before hair and makeup at home, go ahead and do them before your session. For instance: if you have curly hair but want to shoot with straight hair, please straighten your hair before arriving to our studio, where we will perform finishing touches.
Some clients like to have professional hair, nail, and skincare services done a few days before their session. Our goal is to highlight and showcase your natural beauty, so please don’t feel like these types of services are necessary for you to look amazing in your images. However, please do make sure your nails are nicely manicured before your session — no broken nails or chipped paint on fingers or toes please!
Moisturized skin absolutely glows in photographs, so be sure to moisturize your entire body before your session, adding a little more to extra dry areas like knees, elbows, hands, and feet. Make an effort to drink more water in the days leading up to your session so your skin is naturally hydrated as well. Along these lines, please avoid celebrating heavily the night before your session, as a hangover or lack of sleep will affect every aspect of your shoot. We want you to enjoy this experience to the fullest and give you something to celebrate!
Avoid wearing clothing to your session that leaves marks or indentations in the skin. It can take a while for these marks to fade, which can impact the look of your images. Yoga leggings or shorts without tight elastic waistbands, seamless underwear (or none), non-wired or sports bras, and loose-fitting shirts or dresses are the most common items our clients wear to their sessions.
Wardrobe
Some clients know right away which outfits they’re going to wear for their boudoir session, sometimes even purchasing specific items for the shoot. We want you to wear things that make you feel beautiful, confident, and sexy, so it’s important that you understand you do not have to shop for your session unless you want to.
We recommend bringing 3-5 outfits for your session, and there are a couple ways you can go about choosing your outfits.
We can create a story, using each outfit to show a progression to another part of the story. For instance: getting ready for a night on the town, starting nude or in underwear and progressing to lingerie, heels, and dress. Or the opposite: coming home from a night out, starting in a dress and working toward less.
The other way is to think of each outfit like its own mini-shoot, where each will be different from the other. There is no wrong way to do this — your imagination sets the limits!
An outfit can be as simple as underwear and a shirt, or as complex as a full lingerie set with garters and stockings, jewelry, and heels. If you’ve never rocked a lingerie set but have always wanted to, or have always thought shooting in nothing but sports socks would be sexy, we’re here to make your ideas a reality!
